Positive: No matter what I write about Stay Mikado, Ameen and his team, it will never be enough. This is a place for people who want to experience the real Maldivian way of life. If you are looking for super luxury, pretentious places and glamour, go to a resort. But if you want an authentic Maldivian spirit and atmosphere, this is the place for you! Ameen will do everything possible to make your holiday unforgettable – from the very first transfer to the last steps toward the plane at Thimarafushi Airport. We were a group of 13 people and had an amazing time. In the two-bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor we had a washing machine, which we found very convenient. The rooms on the lower floors do not have a view, which might bother some people, but we spent very little time in the rooms anyway – only for sleeping. The hotel has a huge restaurant and game zone where you can play table tennis, billiards and other games while enjoying food or a soft drink. Ameen’s team is wonderful – waiters, housekeeping, kitchen staff – everyone was incredibly kind and friendly. The hotel offers a shuttle to its private beach, which we used often. Walking there takes about 7–10 minutes. The activities offered by the hotel are diverse and reasonably priced compared to all-inclusive resorts or other local islands. We saw countless dolphins, turtles and a rich underwater world. And how did they welcome 2026? We had a special dinner on their private island! Music, barbecue, five-star service in a place with no electricity or running water – yet they turned it into a top resort for a few hours ❤️ The sunset was magical! Once again, thank you to Ameen, Dharun, Teresa and everyone from the Stay Mikado team, who made our stay truly unforgettable ❤️❤️❤️

Positive: This is the perfect place for travelers who want to experience the real Maldivian lifestyle. If you are looking for luxury and glamour, a resort might be a better choice, but if you want authentic Maldivian spirit and warmth, Stay Mikado is the right place. Ameen will assist you with flights and boat transfers to Malé. Ameen and his team are exceptional and do everything possible to make your stay unforgettable – from the first transfer to the departure. We were a group of 13 people and had a wonderful time. The hotel offers a shuttle to its private beach, a large restaurant with a game zone, and a variety of activities at very reasonable prices. We saw dolphins, turtles and amazing marine life. The highlight was the New Year’s celebration – a special dinner on their private island with music, barbecue and incredible service. Truly unforgettable! Thank you to Ameen and the entire Stay Mikado team ❤️

Positive: I found Stay Mikado to be a very safe and comfortable space for digital nomads. I’d like to add a few details to give better context. This was my first solo trip in a long time, i am kinda anxious, so feeling safe was very important to me, along with the ability to stay focused, work online, and remain physically active. Stay Mikado turned out to be a great choice for all of these goals. The Wi-Fi is excellent, the food is diverse enough and healthy, and I really appreciated how easy it was to balance Zoom meetings with surfing. Mobile internet works well on the island, but honestly, the hotel Wi-Fi was more than enough for stable online work. At one point during my stay, I got sick. The staff were very attentive and immediately offered help with finding medical assistance on the island. As it was my last day, I decided not to use it, but I truly appreciated their care and support. A few recommendations for future guests: I highly recommend contacting the Stay Mikado team in advance. 1.To avoid unnecessary waiting in Malé, it’s important to consider that the hotel is located about 200 km from Malé. The journey includes a domestic flight or a speedboat (approximately 1.5 hours by plane or 4 hours by boat — timings may vary), which can be challenging for some travelers. The team can help you choose convenient international flight times and organize smooth transfers both on arrival and departure. 2.Ask for guidance about waves, weather conditions, and skill level if you plan to surf. I believe this is also relevant for scuba diving and other water activities. I also recommend checking Stay Mikado’s social media before booking — it really helps to understand the vibe of the place (and most likely, it will make you want to go). I sometimes mistakenly call Stay Mikado a “hotel,” but it’s much more than that. They offer a complete experience with flexible options depending on your budget. The key is to be proactive and ask questions — the team is very open and helpful.

Negative: This is not something I disliked, but just something worth mentioning for context. There are local residents on the island, and sometimes travelers see warnings saying this is important to consider when choosing a destination. Thimarafushi is an island, where it actually felt pleasant to be a respectful guest there. I personally felt comfortable and safe, but this might be an important detail for some travelers to keep in mind when planning their trip. It is ordinary life there so hope I will come back and run cultural interviews with locals there.

Positive: I was on my solo surfing trip there. The staff and service are excellent! People in the hotel are nice and welcoming. The hotel organized twice surf trips to the nearby spots. I was lucky at the time I stayed there are bit swell coming so perfect glassy waves. We also went to an amazing private island at middle of nowhere. Its just insanely beautidful!

Negative: the room is a bit small. Food is limited.

Positive: -beautiful private beach -quiet excursions (no other people on any of them other than the guests from the hotel) -amazing food -amazing host/manager -gym on top floor -never had to lift a finger as Armeen and the friendly staff organised everything -friendly staff at nearby shops -It was far from Male and the 4 hour boat is long. However, you can take the seaplane on certain days which i did. Absolutely amazing experience! Ameen organised it all.

Negative: I had to leave :(
